Snooker Doubles Report by Dave Webster 3rd March 2010.
Perhaps the most telling result in this week’s round of matches came in Section A at the Stamford Club where the two Stamford Homes teams faced each other. With both of them at the wrong end of the table, the outcome of the game may well decide the relegation places. The first two frames were shared when Chris Madsen and Glen Leggett drew with Andrew and Chris Brown but then the B team took control with 2-0’s from Lee and Peter Leggett and Lee Goodman and Dennis Commons which put them 5-1 up. Ben Goodman and Dennis Legget then shared the last two frames with John and Steve Baker to almost ensure safety for the B lads as they won the match 6-2.
Healing Legion A did well to take the first three frames from Cromwell when Andy Nutting and Pete Krofchak both won two and Mike Crooks and Gerry Howes won their first. That proved to be it though as a single from Mick Jones and Roy Wilson Snr, and 2-0’s from Sid Bird, Loll Potts, Ian Taylor and Graham Boddy gave Cromwell a 5-3 victory.
Leaders Westlands were pushed all the way by Blossom Way B after Phil Robinson and John Potterton won both their frames and Alex Burnett, Rodger Santon, Myles Kennan and Mally Avenell all won a single for the Immingham lads in a 4-4 draw.
Healing Legion B were frozen out completely at Birds Eye when Dave Morley, Steve Watson, Anthony Jagger, Scott Templeman, Stu McLellan, Garry Short, Mick Whyte and Pete Hall won all the frames in an 8-0 slam.
Cue World slumped to a shock defeat in Section B when entertaining Carr Lane C as Neil Batts, Colin Grey, Geoff Ford and Jim McLachlan all won 2-0 for the visitors and Pete and Dave Cullum, and Phil Bown and Gil Clarke won singles in a 6-2 victory.
Clee Bowls B drew 4-4 at second placed West End B when Ralph Dale and Mick Forster won 2-0 and Mike Barrett, Mick Parker, Nigel Francis and Dave Walton shared with Alan Porritt, Mike Needham, Walt Simpson and Tony Bywater. West Ends 2-0 winners were Dave Page and Byron Simpson.
Bottom team Standard C beat their A team 5-3 when Jim Litchfield, Cliff Rigby, Art McDougall and Ray Revell all won 2-0 and Daz Roche and Dave Elford won a single against their more illustrious opponents.
Terry Lloyd and Bob Young won the first two frames for Healing Mens at Hainton B but Sean Bartlett and Dave Moody quickly levelled for the home team. Andy McArthur, Ken Ward, Dave Boyington and Dave Tanner then shared the last four frames with Bill Childs, Andy Stanley, Ben Stowe and Jamie Robinson as the match finished 4-4.
The big match in the Premier Section came at the Ray Edmonds Club when two teams in the relegation zone met head on. A.M.S. (UK) were the hosts against West End B and somewhat predictably, the game finished in a 4-4 draw. Lee Plant and John Waller shared the first two frames with Euan Hunter and Steve Neul before Andy Warner and Sandy Young put the visitors 3-1 up. Lynn Powell and Phil Watts levelled things up for the home team then Simon Appleton and Stuart Powell shared the last two frames with Cliff Goldsack and Dave Webster.
Leaders Clee Cons B had little trouble disposing of club-mates Clee Cons A when Jon Steel, Mike Dowling, Craig Waddingham, Dave Darwent, Jamie Barrett and Lee Pawson all won 2-0 and Brian Bridge and Mark Goss shared with slam-savers Jim Yates and Paul Lidgard.
Second placed Cue World Hotshots drew 4-4 at Clee Home Guard when Ashley Wright and Daz Barraclough won both their frames and John Leyland, Craig Roberts, Ivan Harvey and Aaron Roberts shared with Rick Pacey, Craig Taylor, Fred Parker and Keith Southwell. John Hughes and Mark Stevens won the other two frames for the Guardsmen.
2-0 wins from Shane Newbold, Chris Taylor, Dave Cox, Dave Bartlett, Rob Broughton and Mark Steer together with a single from George Bartlett and Tony Lamberton gave Hainton A a 7-1 victory at Blossom Way A. Saving the slam for the Blossoms were Ashley Jackson and Steve Trott.
